The trail starts at the north-east side of the parking-lot. The trail descends in long switchbacks for 0.5 mile through an old clear-cut that is covered with wild flowers in the beginning of the season. Two benches are conveniently placed along the trail to sit and enjoy the view of the Coldwater Lake and surrounding mountains. The trail evens up and with little elevation change continues for another 0.2 mile to the junction with the Lakes Trail #211. Turning left (north) from the junction will bring you to the lake access that is in 0.2 mile. Turning right (south) from the junction will bring you in 0.7 mile to the Lakes Trail #211 trailhead and Birth of a Lake Interpretive trail.
