Seattle take I-90 East to Exit 47. Turn left at the Stop, in about
0.1 mile turn left again. Trailhead is in 0.3 mile on the right side.

Tht
trail switchbacks through the woods gradually climbing for about
1.2 mile and crossing several small creeks until it meets with Granite
Mountain Trail #1016, that goes to the right. In another 1.9
mile the trail reaches Talapus Lake Cutoff #1039.1 going to the
left. Main trail continues straight going up to the ridge for about
1.2 mile. The trail comes into open area offering view of Olallie
Lake and Mt. Rainier. On the ridge the trail comes to junction with
Mt. Defiance trail #1009, that goes to the left. For about one mile
the trail descends from the ridge going through the woods and on
the open rocky slope. Then it enters the woods again and in 0.3
mile comes to the lake. Tht trail continues on the open rocky slope
along the south side of the lake for about 0.4 mile leading to the
campsites on the east shore and meets with Melakwa
Lake Trail #1011.
