The
trail is used as an access to Mount St. Helens climbing route, that
starts at Monitor Ridge. From the parking lot arear the trail enters
the woods and gradually climbs for 1.5 miles to an open, rocky slope.
From here the trail gets steeper and zigzags to Monitor Ridge. In
0.5 mile it crosses the junction with Loowit Trail 216, and in about
100 ft passes a restroom which stands on the right side of the trail
in the trees. The trail continues on for another 0.1 mile to the
Monitor Ridge basecamp .
Climbers permit is required beyond this point (4800 ft).
