For the first 1.5 mile the trail gradually climbs through the woods to junction with Source Lake Overlook Trail #1013.2, that goes to the left. This short 0.5 mile spur leads to the open rocky northwest slope of the Chair Peak, and also used by climbers going to The Tooth. Earlier this was a part of the Pacific Crest Trail's pack route up to Snow Lake. Another 0.5 mile of steep switchbacks leads you to the ridge . Siwtchbacking on the snow the trail quickly descends to the lake. The lake is still 90% frozen . The view of the Chair Peak on the southwest and Snoqualmie Mt. on the east is magnificent. The trail follows the eastern shore and in about one mile reaches the junction with Rock Creek Trail #1013.1, that leads to the Middle Fork Snoqualmie River, and High Lakes Trail #1012, leading to Gem Lake and Wildcat Lakes. There are several campsites near the lake, some of them are day use only. There is still a lot of snow there, and the one campsite that is already free of snow is at the trails junction. Remains of the old shelter can be found on the south shore .
