No
camping or camp-fires allowed in this area. Almost 1.5 meter wide,
the wooden walkway was constructed back in 1987. This short accessible
trail is a unique chance to glance at the results of Mount St. Helens'
eruption that took place more than 2000 years ago. Weaving through
the trees, the trail passes the site of the ancient lava flow, taking
you to the forest. In the middle of the forest you will discover
a four feet (in diameter) opening in the ground. The opening has
root "tunnels" at the bottom, and you get the presence of a tree,
that you can't see nor touch. The lava flows created unusual caves,
falls and tunnels by burning trees and following the landscape
.
For children the highlight of this short hike will be a 55-foot
crawl through linked tree molds. Exceptional and very educational.
