August 30, 2000

The trail enters the woods and leads to a registration box in about 0.7 mile and to Fire Creek crossing in another 0.5 mile. About 0.1 mile pass Fire Creek Meadow Mountain Trail #657 forks to the left. Another 0.8 mile brings you to a gravel beach near the White Chuck River with two campsites. The trail continues climbing up the slope in switchbacks then evens up and in about 2.6 miles reaches Glacier Creek crossing. There is a nice campsite near the creek. The trail continues on for about 0.3 mile to flood plain, follows it for a little while, then enters the bushes and passes by the Kennedy Ridge Trail #639, that spurs to the left, and in another 0.2 mile reaches the bridge over Kennedy Creek. After the creek crossing the main trail (now #643.02) continues on to the left climbing through the old-grown forest and in about 1.8 mile meets with PCT #2000.

From Kennedy Creek a side trail goes straight leading to a log cabin . There are several nice campsites to the right of the side trail. Good drinking water is available at the spring near the ranger cabin. Behind the cabin a bridge crosses White Chuck River leading to Kennedy Hot Springs , which are on the left of the bridge. The temperature of the water is said to be 95 F. The pool is not very wide, but about 5 feet deep and quite comfortable to stand in. There are several spots on the bottom of the pool from which a fresh inflow bubbles up to the surface.

To the right from the bridge a side trail leads to campsites on the west side. A short way up the side trail there is a sign indicating Lake Byrne Trail #774 and Lost Creek Ridge Trail #646, that go up the slope.
